Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern

Until July 2016

What is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern?

In the State of Florida, After graduating from a Master's degree program with a Counseling degree, ALL individuals must first complete additional hands-on experience, directly providing counseling services, and we must also all pass the state licensure exam before achieving Licensed Mental Health Counselor status (You may often see LMHC after a licensed counselor's name).

The experience requirement is 1,500 hours in no less than 100 weeks (this is why Chad Brown is not eligible to be a LMHC until July 2016), however our profession's regulating body, also requires that all Registered Mental Health Counselor Interns maintain regular contact with a Qualified Supervisor, or a currently Licensed Mental Health Counselor that has also completed additional training to be qualified to provide this supervision to Registered Mental Health Counselor Interns.

While a LMHC has completed the experience and examination requirements to obtain licensure, this does not mean you should consider Registered Mental Health Counselor Interns as less valuable!

Counselors are as unique and complex as the clients they work with, and it is for this reason that both parties should identify relationships where they would be most therapeutically effective.  This includes identifying times when they are not qualified or able to be fully present for a client.

Unfortunately, even the most brilliant counselor can not see and help every client!  This is the reason why it is important to have a network of quality referrals and community resources to offer individuals when we can not help personally.  Chad Brown is committed to this practice and utilizes it with every individual he encounters!

I know that is a lot to take in and understand, even professionals in our own industry struggle to understand all of it at times!

Here is the official link that mental health professionals use to understand all of this.  Chad Brown provides this information to his Clients and our community in order to provide clarity and guidance, especially when you have enough on your mind at this time anyway!
